چکیده

Methods We studied 19 patients attending our Department (68,4% female, median age 13,6 yrs). The Childhood Health Assessment Questionnaire (CHAQ) was administered to all patients. The CHAQ is a disease specific instrument selected because of its widespread use in the pediatric rheumatology literature and ease of administration. The CHAQ measures functional ability in eight activities of daily living: dressing and grooming, arising, eating, walking, hygiene, reach, grip and activities. The items with the highest score in a domain determine the score for that domain. These eight domains are then averaged into a summary score called the disability index which may range from 0 to 3, with the higher scores meaning higher disability. The CHAQ also provided an assessment of discomfort using a 10 cm VAS visual analogical scale (VAS) for the evaluation of overall wellbeing.

An evaluation of long-term outcomes in adults with pediatric-onset morphea.

T he prevalence of morphea in childhood is not well established, but reports suggest that approximately two-thirds of linear morphea cases occur before age 18 years, and 20% to 30% of morphea cases overall begin in childhood. Studies have described substantial morbidity in children with morphea, but to our knowledge none has addressed the disease effects when the patients reach adulthood (age 1...

"Borrelia-associated early-onset morphea": a particular type of scleroderma in childhood and adolescence with high titer antinuclear antibodies? Results of a cohort analysis and presentation of three cases.

BACKGROUND Morphea is an inflammatory autoimmune skin sclerosis of unknown etiology. A causative role of Borrelia burgdorferi infection has been controversially discussed, but no conclusive solution has yet been achieved. OBJECTIVE Intrigued by 3 young patients with severe Borrelia-associated morphea and high-titer antinuclear antibodies, we retrospectively examined the relationship between B...

Borrelia burgdorferi antibodies in childhood scleroderma

Background and aim A possible aetiological connection between skin sclerosis and infection with Borrelia burgdorferi (Bb) has been discussed. Studies investigating the link between Bb and morphea have produced conflicting results. In several series, all patients with morphea tested have been seronegative. Other studies have found specific antibodies to Bb in between 6% and 54% of patients with ...
